On Friday, April 12, 2024, we celebrated the opening of our biomethane plant in Ebavere! In addition to boosting agriculture in Väike-Maarja parish, the plant will create additional jobs, supporting the local community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this project a reality – together, we’re moving toward a greener future!

Estonia’s most advanced biomethane plant can process up to 130,000 tons of biodegradable materials annually, providing an annual fuel supply for over 80 gas-powered buses. Bioforce Group invested nearly €10 million in the plant’s construction. Biomethane is an eco-friendly, methane-rich gaseous fuel produced from biodegradable materials, usable anywhere natural gas is consumed.

“The Ebavere biomethane plant enhances energy security and supports climate goals,” said Henry Uljas, Chairman of Bioforce Group.

“Organic materials and stored animal manure emit methane directly into the atmosphere, where it’s at least 28 times more harmful as a greenhouse gas compared to CO₂. Redirecting these wastes to our plant for conversion is essential.”

According to Uljas, biomethane production exemplifies the circular economy in action. “Using innovative technology, we convert agricultural byproducts from nearby farms into eco-friendly fuel for transportation. This fuel can also be refuelled at the nearby Kaarma station, where Bioforce has established a dedicated compressed gas station,” Uljas added.
